Loop 360 Update – April 2020

April 9th, 2020

A message from TXDOT:
TxDOT was asked if they could add a dedicated right-turn lane for drivers headed from eastbound Bluffstone Drive to southbound Loop 360 (circled in blue on the graphic below). TxDOT has evaluated this request and has added an additional lane at this intersection. The additional lane will accommodate both right-turning as well as through traffic. It also corresponds with the two through lanes that continue along Spicewood Springs Road (E).

TxDOT was also asked to evaluate the safety of the right-turn from southbound Loop 360 to westbound Bluffstone Drive (circled in red below). After evaluations, TxDOT has modified the design to allow improved visibility for drivers making the turn. The design rotates the pedestrian refuge island so that the “tail” points toward approaching traffic. This slows turning vehicle speeds and allows drivers to see approaching cross street traffic, as well as pedestrians, more clearly. The new target design speed for vehicles making the turn is approximately 15 mph.

Public input is essential for the success of the Loop 360 program. We value your feedback and appreciate your suggestions. We look forward to continuing to work with you as the project moves forward.
