City Council Redistricting Sessions Beginning

July 14th, 2021

The Independent Citizens Redistricting Commission (ICRC) of Austin will hold ten public input hearings regarding the district boundaries of the council districts, starting on Thursday, July 15, 2021 at Austin City Hall. At the first meeting, members of Austin’s District 9 community and the public are invited to attend an in-person public meeting to hear from the ICRC and the work being done on the new City Council district maps.

The public will have an opportunity to provide comments and feedback on the redistricting process. The 14 commissioners will take testimony from members of the community on how they would like to see their city districts drawn.

Along with Census data, publicly submitted comments will be used to assist the ICRC as it begins the process of drawing district boundaries. The focus of public testimony is to receive information about the unique characteristics of communities of interest from those most familiar with their neighborhoods in order to help the ICRC determine areas that should remain intact and/or be grouped together in districts.

The new districts will be in effect for the November 2022 election.
