We checked in with our contact at the City of Austin to get an update on the work being done in our neighborhood on the Spicewood Springs Pump Station improvements, and we received this information.
The site locations #2 and #3 and #4-A will begin after Far West Blvd has the final paving completed. Work at Site location #1 is ongoing. [see the Spicewood Springs Location Map for each work location.
There are many factors and criteria involved in installing a project such as this one. The traffic control must remain open so work has to be constantly shifting from one side of the street to the other to get all pipe installed. The weather has been unusually wet for this time of year. The records of existing utilities are not always accurate and we must accommodate these unforeseen utilities once in the field when everything is exposed.
There are 3 streets to connect to the new 8” water line:
- Montana Norte
- Spurlock Dr.
- Sun Gate Dr.
There are several types of testing, all required by city, state, and federal laws, to be performed on all segments of pipe. There is the final paving which will be done after all pipe is installed and tested. Again the contractor will have to shift the traffic to get to each side of the street to pave.
With regard to the entire project, it is proposed to be completed by spring 2017. However the project team will keep you informed of any future updates.
